Friday night brings with it the end of a long week. A long week of treatments for Elena. A long week of adjustments for all of us. We have made it through and are counting our blessings, though we are doing so from two different locations as we lay our heads down for some much needed rest.
Elena had a busy day today doing all of the things required to try and stay on top of things. She is still receiving fluids, IV antibiotics and oral medications. She is doing physical therapy to try to help prevent the side effects from the chemo from becoming worse. And she is keeping up with her school work all the while trying to remain a well rounded, fun-loving, happy-go-lucky, soon-to-be teenager! We think she is doing a wonderful job!!
We found out today, Day 9, that Elena is right on schedule for where the doctors thought that she would be. Her ANC has dropped to 10. This is the number that tells how well her body can fight infection. Normal is 1500 or above and safe is 500 or higher. Needless to say with an ANC of 10 and falling to 0, we need to take every precaution to keep Elena away from any germs or viruses. A fever now would not be good at all. We are sorry for those of you who would like to come visit Elena in the hospital, and for Elena because she loves visitors, but unfortunately, we have to keep visits to a minimum for now.
Thank you for understanding.
Thank you for your prayers and for your words of encouragement!
In Him,
The Tates

Christy~ I was blessed to be able to spend a moments in Elena's presence this last week. She is such a spunky girl.......and she doesn't even know me. I didn't go down much because I was ever so aware that Danielle was clearly fighting some kind of infection. I stayed to myself much of the time because I didn't want to pass it around. In the end, it seems that she suffering from 'unsharable' bugs, but I'm glad that we didn't infect anyone else. Wish I could have spend more time with your girl though because she just made me smile :) Praying for you always!
