The Good and the Bad

Thought we'd give you a school/home update tonight.
We want to share the joy and the pain with you.

Elena's return to school on Monday was very good. There weren't any problems with friends or other students at school. Elena says she has no recollection of the seizure or being taken out of the school to the ambulance. Everyone was concerned about Elena and they were happy she was back. Kids, I do not know, stop me in the hall to ask, "How's Elena?". Others say they are praying for her. To them, Elena is a normal fifth grader.
I love to catch glimpses of her being pushed in her wheelchair by a giggling group of girls. I've even had reports of "speeding tickets" being issued to her. Of course, those are the times a boy is pushing her! : )
At times, she is having trouble handling homework. After being at school all day, she is really tired when she gets home. Also, after being absent a day and a half, she was feeling behind in her schoolwork. We hope that we have calmed her fears and reassured her that she is not responsible for every bit of information missed and that she will be more than prepared when it comes to tests, etc.

Right now, our biggest challenge is in the evenings. Every evening Elena struggles with bouts of anger and frustration. It is very difficult to deal with long periods of yelling, screaming, and uncontrollable anger. We have been told that this may be a side effect of the anti-seizure medication. A praise is that these moments happen at home and not a school.

Please pray that we will be able to figure out what is causing the trouble. Pray for us to have the patience and wisdom to be able to handle these times and for Olivia to not be troubled by them or neglected through them.

Thank you for being there for us, for your prayers and for your physical, spiritually and emotional support!
With love,
The Tates

"We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you." Psalm 33:20-22

  1. We are thinking of y'all. Sorry to hear that Elena is having a hard time on the new drugs. I am sure that it is fustrating for her as it is for y'all. I will be praying for peace for Elena and for the patice for getting through the night. Those girls are so lucky to have parents like you and Mark. We love you, Pam and Roland.

  2. Blogging is kind of new for me. I have done the Carebridge site, but not sure if that is considered blogging. I guess I am not as IT savy as I thought:-) Anyways, I just want to let you know we are praying for Elena and the whole family. Co-workers have heard the story and are also praying for her. I wish I had the special words to provide the comfort I am sure you need, but best I can do is tell you we pray everyday for Elena and all of you. You are always on our mind and in our prayers! 5. Hi guys, Glad to see you are blogging. I don't have to depend on Megan remembering to forward your e-mails now. Tell Elena to ask Mark about wheelchair speeding on choir tour one year. There are some benefits to being in a chair that are great fun. I hope I can catch a moment with you on Sunday to hug and love on you all.
