Let's Conquer Cancer

It's so hard to believe that today is the first day of September!

September 2nd Elena will have her port accessed for the 29th time, will have her 9th lumbar puncture, and receive three different types of chemo.
September 6th begins Elena's sixth month of having leukemia.
September 9th, Olivia will undergo her 15th MRI.
September 22nd Olivia will be evaluated by the brain tumor team at Aflac Cancer Center for the 12th time.

September is recognized as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know that cancer is the #1 disease killer of children in the United States? More children die from cancer than from asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and pediatrics AIDS combined. Yet, only 2% of federal funding for cancer research is directed at researching cancers that impact children.

How can childhood cancer become a priority? It begins with each one of us.
We need your help to raise more funds and more awareness.

So, we will begin this month with the lemonade stand on September 1st, in downtown Norcross (next to Thrasher Park) from 4-8pm. As usual, 100% of the proceeds will go to the Aflac Cancer Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Not only does this center provide advanced medical treatment for cancer, it is also conducting leading-edge research in conjunction with numerous national and local groups.

We are excited about our return to Norcross! The community has been amazing.
In the girls absence, some wonderful citizens from the city of Norcross have set-up and manned the lemonade stand in honor of the girls' quest to squeeze out cancer. These donations, along with other donations that have been sent to us from people who read the AJC article, have helped the girls pass their original goal of $1,500. So far, over $2,000 has been collected! We give praise to the God who knows no limits!! The girls have set a new goal of $2,500.

This month, in addition to our efforts in Norcross, we are participating in an initiative called "CURE's Kids Conquer Cancer One Day at a Time."

CURE Childhood Cancer is an incredible local organization that is committed to raising
awareness and raising money to help find a cure for childhood cancer in our lifetime.
CURE’s goal is to raise $1,000 each day throughout the month of September, for a grand total of $30,000 that will go towards pediatric cancer research.

On September 27th, Elena will be honored by CURE. Elena will be one of the featured children on that special day. She will be featured with her story and picture on its website www.curechildhoodcancer.org, its blog www.curechildhoodcancerblog.wordpress.com and on www.firstgiving.com/curekidelenatate. While Elena has her own special day, her community of supporters can donate in her honor any time throughout the month.

Thanks for your prayerful consideration of these cancer fundraisers during the month of September!

Thank you for your continued prayers and support during this journey. We continue to be hopeful and rely on God.

With love,

The Tate Family

“We wait in hope for the Lord: He is our help and our shield.
In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.
May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord,
Even as we put our hope in you.”
Psalm 33:20-22
